Lea Lyon is an award-winning children's book illustrator, painting teacher and portrait artist who has made a childhood dream come true.

Lea loved to draw and paint as a child and took art classes from a lovely woman in a converted garage that became a magical children's painting studio. She graduated to painting in oils when she was 11.

And she wanted to be a children's book illustrator when she grew up.

But life, as it often does, got in the way; College, raising a family, running a small doll and puppet business, then back to school for an MBA and into the corporate world.

Now, at long last, Lea is living her dream as a children's book illustrator.

Lea has published four trade picture books, Say Something, by Peggy Moss, which won the Teachers' Choice Award from Learning Magazine, Playing War, by Kathy Beckwith, Keep Your Ear on the Ball by Genevieve Petrillo which was a finalist for the ALA Schneider Family Award for 2007. See more about these books, including Teacher Guides, on the Tilbury House website.

Her latest book, The Miracle Jar, by New York Times best-selling author Audrey Penn, Tanglewood Books, will be available in the Fall of 2008.

Lea is an active member of The SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.) Her illustration portfolios won awards twice at SCBWI National Conferences. She is currently the Illustrator Coordinator of the San Francisco region of SCBWI arranging workshops and conferences for local illustrators.

Lea does school author/illustrator visits. She also teaches watercolor painting classes at senior centers and senior residences.

Her paintings have appeared in many group gallery exhibits, including the Museum of Children's Art in Oakland, and hang in the permanent collection of the Sonoma Family Court offices in Santa Rosa, CA. Many are in private collections.

Besides illustrating books and teaching art, Lea paints commissioned portraits from photographs that are mailed or emailed to her. She especially loves painting pictures of children, but she happily paints portraits of adults and pets as well. Recently she has ventured back into oil painting, and offers portraits in oils as well as watercolor.

Lea lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband.
